Launch DayZ, click Servers, then Direct Connect. Enter your server's IP address and port (you'll find these in your LOW.MS control panel at control.low.ms). You can also search for your server by name in the Community tab. A lot of players prefer using the DZSA Launcher for browsing modded servers — it makes finding and joining servers with specific mod lists much easier.
Yes — DayZ has one of the biggest modding communities out there, with thousands of mods on the Steam Workshop. You can install mods for traders, expanded base building, new weapons, vehicles, helicopters, custom maps, and loads more. LOW.MS servers include full FTP access so you can upload mod files directly.
DayZ includes Chernarus (the classic 225 km² map) and Livonia by default — Livonia was made free with update 1.25. Sakhal is a harsh northern island available through the Frostline DLC. Community maps like Namalsk, Deer Isle, Banov, and others can be installed from the Steam Workshop.
BattlEye is enabled by default on all LOW.MS DayZ servers and we'd strongly recommend keeping it on. It runs automatically in the background to detect and ban cheaters. If you disable BattlEye, your server won't appear in the standard server browser and you'll be wide open to hackers.
DayZ uses a Central Economy system controlled mainly through the types.xml file in your mission folder. You can adjust the nominal (target count), min (minimum before respawn), lifetime, and spawn locations for every item in the game. It's powerful but fiddly — check our Server Configuration knowledgebase article for a proper walkthrough.
Vanilla DayZ typically uses around 4-6 GB of RAM. Once you start adding mods like DayZ Expansion, you're looking at 8-12 GB or more. All LOW.MS DayZ servers come with 10 GB of RAM as standard, which covers most modded setups. If you're running a heavily modded server, you can upgrade to 15, 20, 25, or 30 GB.
Yes, all of that is configurable through the serverDZ.cfg file which you can access via your control panel. You can adjust day/night cycle speed, enable first-person only mode, set server passwords, configure whitelists, tweak weather, and a lot more.
DayZ bases persist between server restarts by default. Players need to interact with their flag pole every 5 days (this is configurable via FlagRefreshFrequency in globals.xml) to stop their base from decaying. For a full server wipe, you delete the persistence files in the storage_1 folder. Most communities run monthly wipe schedules and announce them in advance.
